Radiotherapy for Plantar Fasciitis

The Heel Pain Practice provides an effective and non-invasive radiotherapy treatment solution for people suffering from plantar fasciitis.

What is Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis is a very common condition, affecting around 10% of the UK population at some point in their lives. The plantar fascia is a strong band of tissue that stretches along the underside of the foot, under the skin, from your heel to the middle of the foot. This ligament normally acts as shock-absorber and supports the arch of your foot, but when it becomes overloaded or over-used, the plantar fascia can tear and start to degenerate. This results in pain in the heel, known as plantar fasciitis.

How to treat Plantar Fasciitis

All patients suffering from plantar fasciitis should first try general measures such as resting, stretching and changing footwear to relieve pressure on the painful area. If these measures have proved ineffective after at least three months, contact us so we can discuss radiotherapy treatment with you.

Radiotherapy for Plantar Fasciitis

A very low dose of targeted X-rays can be used to treat plantar fasciitis. This has been shown to be effective at reducing pain in 80% of cases*.

At the Heel Pain Practice, our consultants are nationally-renowned specialists in radiotherapy for Plantar Fasciitis, with extensive experience of how to achieve the best possible treatment outcome.

Alison’s story – how radiotherapy alleviated plantar fasciitis pain

Alison suffered with plantar fasciitis for over 12 years, and had tried a wide variety of therapeutics in a hope to alleviating her discomfort.

“I was really surprised to find that radiotherapy could be a treatment option, I wasn’t aware of radiotherapy being used in this way. The treatment at GenesisCare was wonderful, all the staff were really welcoming. I have had no side effects from radiotherapy, it was easy, I just had to lie back for a few minutes and had no idea that anything was happening”.

Having now completed radiotherapy treatment, Alison is benefitting from a much improved quality of life, “From not being able to go for walks prior to radiotherapy, I have now seen a huge improvement, and can comfortably walk up to an hour”.
